Mary Magdalene is depicted on the obverse of this note. The image represents "Caritas" which means "charity" in Latin. A single pillar appears to the right of Mary. A vertical pillar appears as a design element on every Goldback of every denomination, representing the steadfastness of gold currency. Over Mary two angels place a crown on her head. Candles in the image represent the light of charity as do the two hearts to either side of her.
